Mother’s Day Inspiration

First of all…Happy Mother’s to all the mommies. I hope you had a wonderful day!

Thanks to my FMIL, I received great inspiration for the wedding flowers today. She gave me this lovely vase of cymbidiums orchids:

Aren’t they beautiful?

As we were driving to my grandmother’s house, Omar looks over at the flowers and says very matter of factly, “I really like those flowers. What kind are they?” At the moment, I wasn’t sure. I only knew they were some sort of orchid. My reply was, “You know, I really like them too.”

This surprised me. I am usually a rose girl. I also love lilies, particulary stargazer or oriental lilies. Both of those flowers can be so very fragrant. I can always tell you when a stargazer is nearby and a rose scent is very classic.  This orchid has no scent at all. But, I fell in love with the face of it. And I like the purple and white flower….I also like the green buds. I am not sure if you could see it in my picture, but it does sort of incorporate the purple/chartreuse scheme I was talking about.

So, naturally, once we got home I got on Theknot.com to find more inspiration. This is what I found. At the moment my vision is lavender roses and perhaps green cymbidiums. Or maybe the purple cymbidiums with green pom poms. Anyhow, here are the other inspiration pictures I found:

I really like the purple and green cymbidiums together. I had always envisioned my main flower as being roses, even though in this bouquet there are mere scattered accents. Perhaps the bridesmaids can carry cymbidiums?

This one is really pretty and I had originally thought about adding the green pom poms to the roses for the green color splash, so I like the visual.

This is just the green cymbidiums, but still a lovely bouquet.

This one has the green cymbidiums with navy accents. I liked it to show how well the green cymbidiums contrast with other colors.

This is my least favorite. Only because as I mentioned, I always knew I’d have roses as my main flower. Even though I like calla lilies and they seem to have taken on a new meaning as a “wedding flower”, it just was not something I thought of as part of my wedding scheme. I have completely skipped over calla lily invites and other accesories to not take away from my beautiful roses. However, I like again the contrast in colors here with the dark purple and the green. Very pretty.

I am excited about my new inspiration. I think it is quite funny how you envision one thing but yet, for whatever sentiment, start getting swayed towards another idea. I am loving the idea of the cymbidium orchid because A) The fiance likes them too (Then, it would feel like he actually had input in something. Haha), B) It does have sentiment since my FMIL gave me a vase of them and C) it incporates the green tones nicely in to the bouquets.

I thought I had chosen my wedding flowers a long time ago. I have since changed my mind a few times, depending on color schemes, changing of wedding seasons and sentiment. It appears that now my wedding flowers may have chosen me! Now, all I have to do is find out if the wedding coordinator can get these!

Did you find that your color scheme or theme changed for your wedding or any other type party?

  1. I change my mind ALL the time…I’m very impulsive so I buy what I see and then think about it…I find myself returning a lot of stuff because after buying something and then seeing something else I like..I return the original item to the store. Can you imagine if I had to plan a wedding a year in advance? OH LORDIE!!..That’s a lot of time to change my mind.

  2. That is one thing we have in common. I’m not a good decision maker to begin with. I always thought I got that from my mom, but maybe it was from Dad!

for the brides maids I think…but I am having a hard time visualizing the flowers with the dress color you like for us.

  4. I like the purple and green cymbidium orchids with rose accents, and the dark purple callas and green cymbidiums. those were my favorite 🙂
